Course Description:

The AHA PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization) course is tailored for healthcare professionals seeking specialized training in pediatric emergency care. Through interactive lessons and realistic scenarios, participants learn crucial skills in recognizing and managing pediatric patients in distress. Successful completion results in certification, signifying proficiency in assessing and stabilizing pediatric patients during critical medical situations.

Students must successfully complete child & infant BLS CPR with AED skills test and score an 84% minimum on the written video based, exam at the end of class to successfully complete the course. 

This course will cover:

  • Pediatric assessment: Techniques for assessing the overall condition of pediatric patients, including vital signs, mental status, and appearance.
  • Respiratory distress and failure: Recognition and management of various respiratory conditions in pediatric patients, such as asthma, croup, and respiratory failure.
  • Cardiac arrest: Strategies for responding to pediatric cardiac arrest situations, including CPR techniques and appropriate use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

  • Shock management: Identification and treatment of different types of shock in pediatric patients, including hypovolemic, cardiogenic, and septic shock.

  • Arrhythmia recognition: Basics of identifying and responding to various arrhythmias in pediatric patients, including bradycardia and tachycardia.

  • Pediatric pharmacology: Overview of medications used in pediatric emergencies, including dosages and administration routes.

  • Communication and teamwork: Effective communication and coordination strategies within healthcare teams during pediatric emergencies.

  • Pediatric equipment: Familiarization with specialized equipment used in pediatric emergencies, such as airway devices and pediatric-specific monitoring tools.

  • Patient stabilization: Techniques for stabilizing pediatric patients before transferring them to a higher level of care.

Course Duration: 6 Hours

Certification: Successful completion of this course provides a 2 year, AHA PEARS Provider certificate.  

 

Requirements

  1. The AHA requires you to have a provider manual for class. It must be the most current version with 2020 guidelines. If you have one already, you may bring it to class or you can purchase one by choosing from the following purchase options:
